disk missing or F.S. corrupted
Hi,
I am having a problem with a certain file system. I am running hp-ux 11.23 on rx4640, and after a reboot, a file system cannot be mounted. This is what I get when I try to check:
#mount /dev/vg01/lvol7 /data7
vxfs mount: /dev/vg01/lvol7 is corrupted. needs checking
when I do fsck:
fsck -F vxfs -o full -y /dev/vg01/lvol7
file system is larger than device
vxfs fsck: cannot initialize aggregate
file system check failure, aborting ...
But when I do vgdisplay, the output tells me that I have one disk missing from Cur PV and Act PV.
--- Volume groups ---
VG Name /dev/vg01
VG Write Access read/write
VG Status available
Max LV 250
Cur LV 7
Open LV 7
Max PV 16
Cur PV 9
Act PV 8
Max PE per PV 63999
VGDA 16
PE Size (Mbytes) 16
But when I do ioscan -fnC disk, I dont see any UNCLAIMED or NO_HW problem.
Please can somebody help?

Re: disk missing or F.S. corrupted
Hi:
# vgdsiplay -v vg01
Look for "Physical volumes" information.

Re: disk missing or F.S. corrupted
Hi
There are 8 disks in /etc/lvmpvg under vg01, as opposed to the output of vgdisplay -v /dev/vg01 that shows 9. So are you saying that I should edit this file and add one more disk?
#more /etc/lvmpvg
VG /dev/vg01
PVG PVG0
/dev/dsk/c4t0d1
/dev/dsk/c9t0d1
/dev/dsk/c13t0d1

/dev/dsk/c9t0d2
/dev/dsk/c13t0d2
/dev/dsk/c18t0d2
PVG NETAPP
/dev/dsk/c43t0d2
VG /dev/vg00
PVG NETAPP
/dev/dsk/c43t0d0
/dev/dsk/c42t0d0

Re: disk missing or F.S. corrupted
And the missing disk in /etc/lvmpvg which is /dev/dsk/c43t0d5, is empty according to:
#pvdisplay -v /dev/dsk/c43t0d5 | more
--- Physical volumes ---
PV Name /dev/dsk/c43t0d5
VG Name /dev/vg01
PV Status available
Allocatable yes
VGDA 2
Cur LV 0
PE Size (Mbytes) 16
Total PE 57599
Free PE 57599
Allocated PE 0
Stale PE 0
IO Timeout (Seconds) default
Autoswitch On
--- Physical extents ---
PE Status LV LE
00000 free 00000
00001 free 00000
00002 free 00000
00003 free 00000
00004 free 00000
00005 free 00000
So, will I be able to recover?

Re: disk missing or F.S. corrupted
Hi
This is the output of strings /etc/lvmtab:
#strings /etc/lvmtab
/dev/vg00
/dev/dsk/c2t1d0s2
/dev/dsk/c43t0d0
/dev/dsk/c42t0d0
/dev/vg01
/dev/dsk/c4t0d1
/dev/dsk/c9t0d1
/dev/dsk/c13t0d1
/dev/dsk/c18t0d1
/dev/dsk/c4t0d2
/dev/dsk/c9t0d2
/dev/dsk/c13t0d2
/dev/dsk/c18t0d2
/dev/dsk/c43t0d2
/dev/dsk/c42t0d2
/dev/dsk/c42t0d1
/dev/dsk/c4t0d3
/dev/dsk/c9t0d3
/dev/dsk/c13t0d3
/dev/dsk/c18t0d3
/dev/dsk/c4t0d4
/dev/dsk/c4t0d5
/dev/dsk/c43t0d5
/dev/vg02
/dev/dsk/c43t0d3
/dev/dsk/c42t0d3
I am worried that disk /dev/dsk/c43t0d5 is empty from the output of pvdisplay.....
