Re: disk usage

Pete

why do you call me John ?

I have now downloaded one of the patches onto the dreaded server and untarred it. I subsequently ran the create depot script and it created a file PHNE_28760.depot ( yes I know this is not the one i started out with )
this file is not an ascii file so how do i retrieve it. Im really lookinf for a way of getting diskusage without having to put the patches onto the boxes.

will the disk usage be the same across different platforms ?

thanks

Re: disk usage

Try it wit tar.

# tar tvf PHNE_28760.depot | more

Re: disk usage

Robert

tar just tells you the content of the file ie which files are in the archive not the disk usage.

/usr/conf/lib/libhp-ux.a(ufs_vm.o)

whose size is 10652 bytes.

Re: disk usage

Bear in mind that a few patches or installs builds files and new kernels "on the fly" so that the answer very much depends upon the particular platform. What you are asking is impossible without running swinstall -p.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: disk usage

Bruno, I think that yendenos wants to know how the size of the fs are affected after the patch installation rather than the space needed to install it. Correct?
