/etc/services permission/ownership keep changing

Hi All,

I have a strange issue on my SD package.Everytime I installed a product called SOEG_SYS from Depot server called bdhm, it always revert the permission and ownership of /etc/services file to 644 and bin:bin respectively. When I checked the PSF file, there is no entry that will change that permission/ownership. The strange thing is that this only happens on certain group of servers, not on all servers.

I used the following command to install the product:

[root@bdhm:/]
# swinstall -x mount_all_filesystems=false -s bdhm:/var/spool/sw/soeg/HP/SOEG_SYS SOEG_SYS @ tep1

After the installation finished, /etc/services will change from 444/root:sys to 644/bin:bin as below:

[root@tep1:/etc]
# ll services
-rw-r--r-- 1 bin bin 11329 Jun 19 01:05 services

Is there any method to check on which part of the installation changed the permission/ownership?

Please help. High score will be given.

Thanks and Best Regards,
Dewa

Re: /etc/services permission/ownership keep changing

Hi Dewa,

# swlist -l file -s /var/spool/sw/soeg/HP/SOEG_SYS SOEG_SYS |grep "/etc/services"

If exist, unmark this file.

Re: /etc/services permission/ownership keep changing

Shalom Dewa,

Checking the scripts will let you do it. Take a look for a chmod 444 /etc/services.

You might wish to read the depot documents and ask why this is happening.

-rw-r--r-- 1 root sys 11541 Jan 11 2005 /etc/services

The above permissions is standard and secure enough.
