fbackup failing on 11.31

fbackup on is giving the following error:

"fbackup(3038): output file is not a valid device file for backup"

Pax, tar work ok.

Integrity, 11.31 OS

ioscan -fnC
Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description

/dev/rmt/4mn /dev/rmt/c1t5d0BESTn
/dev/rmt/4mnb /dev/rmt/c1t5d0BESTn

Tape model: C9264CB-vS80
This tape drive worked on 11.23.

This looks like a problem with fbackup on 11.31 using the stape driver. The release notes on 11.31 says the C9264CB-vS80 drive may or may not be supported using the 'estape' driver. It doesn't mention the legacy 'stape' driver as being a problem.

Cu has the lastest fbackup/frecover patch installed.

Can you tell me exact command you are giving for taking the backup using fbackup.

Re: fbackup failing on 11.31

Tried the same fbackup that had been running ok on 11.23. That didn't work, so just tried to backup /home for testing. That failed also.

fbackup -v -f /dev/rmt/4m -i /home

Hello.
Is fbackup still on 11.31. I read somewere that it was going to be deprecated in 11.31.

Re: fbackup failing on 11.31

ioscan -m dsf shows the legacy and Persistent DSFs

# ioscan -m dsf
Persistent DSF Legacy DSF(s)
========================================
/dev/rdisk/disk2 /dev/rdsk/c0t6d0
/dev/rdisk/disk2_p1 /dev/rdsk/c0t6d0s1
/dev/rdisk/disk2_p2 /dev/rdsk/c0t6d0s2
/dev/rdisk/disk2_p3 /dev/rdsk/c0t6d0s3

fbackup worked using the Persistent DSF. The persistent DSFs use estape rather than stape. Advised CU the device he is using is questionable and he should consider replacing it.

Thanks all. closing this one.

ioscan -m dsf

Use persistent DSFs, which you estape rather than stape.
