fdisk to LVM

we have built out some systems laying out the fdisk format. it is redhat AS 3. now we have have bring down the system frequently for any additional space requests. we are planning to convert this existing fdisk format to LVM. is there any way of conversion other than creating brand new logical volumes and restore from back up?

Thanks

Re: fdisk to LVM

There's no 'nice' way to transfer an existing partition to a new LVM partition, no.

If you're adding more media (is it larger than the current values you're trying to migrate?), then you can add the new stuff as LVM, migrate it across, incorporate the old partition into the LVM, and move on from there..

Well, that's one way to go ;)

Re: fdisk to LVM

You must create the new logical volumes and transfer the data using copy/backup operations. You cannot "migrate" your existing partitions to LVM without destroying the data.

No.
