file-cache queries

Hi,

i have some queries.

Our server:

1) BL860c i2
2) HP-UX 11.31
3) 32GB RAM
4) filecache_max = default (50%)
5) filecache_min = default (5%).

When the system needs to use the filecache memory ?

And the current value of filecache_max it's default, Does this mean the system reserved 16 GB for filecashe

and are not used for anything else ?

Total VM :  35.2gb   Sys Mem  :  12.4gb   User Mem:  10.3gb   Phys Mem :  31.9gb
Active VM:  34.4gb   Buf Cache:     0mb   Free Mem:   160mb   FileCache:   9.1gb
MemFS Blk Cnt:                0   MemFS Swp Cnt:                0

Thanks

That's most likely way to much, especially if you are using Oracle.

When it wants to cache pages to speed up I/O.

>Does this mean the system reserved 16 GB for filecache

Up to 16 Gb but it is currently only using 9.1gb.

is not used for anything else?

If there is memory pressure for swap, it can be reduced to the min.
