file system not accessible.

Hi,

One of our file system (data2) is not accessible. It is configured on a single disk (PV) and seperate VG. I have pasted the output of the diskinfo, ioscan and dd below for the same.

Please help to recover the same.

# diskinfo /dev/rdsk/c0t3d0
diskinfo: can't SIOC_INQUIRY /dev/rdsk/c0t3d0: No such device or address

# ioscan -funC disk
disk 3 0/4/1/0.0.0.3.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP DG146ABAB4
/dev/dsk/c0t3d0 /dev/rdsk/c0t3d0

# dd if=/dev/rdsk/c0t3d0 of=/dev/null bs=1024k
dd read error: No such device or address
0+0 records in
0+0 records out

If I am doing ls -ltr /data2 .. it is getting hanged.

Thanks in advance

Gab

Re: file system not accessible.

Check for event.log for error with regards to H/W path 0/4/1/0.0.0.3.0

Re: file system not accessible.

Hi

Please post the O/Ps for

#strings /etc/lvmtab
#bdf
#ioscan -fnCdisk
#vgdisplay -v /dev/

that will help know better if that disk is dead or what.
it can be shown in the ioscan but dd says something else !!!

This is a local disk as the ioscan suggets.

I suggest you to see this thread.

I think it's a disk failure... maybe you 'll go to see the disk in NO HW

Re: file system not accessible.

please refer to the following in the O/P as shown by you.

--- Physical volumes ---
PV Name /dev/dsk/c0t3d0
PV Status unavailable
Total PE 2187
Free PE 0
Autoswitch On

try doing the following after few seconds.

#ioscan -fnCdisk
make sure that the disk c0t3d0 shows as CLAIMED and the dev files are there.

#pvchange -a y /dev/dsk/c0t3d0
#vgchange -a y /dev/vg02
#pvchange -t 180 /dev/dsk/c0t3d0
#cat /etc/fstab
#mount -a

#bdf
#dd if=/dev/dsk/c0t3d0 of=/dev/null count=1000

Please post the O/Ps.

please note that the SCAN comes in the ioscan O/P as the system is busy scanning the Disks. Make sure that you get that stable and see CLAIMED.

Re: file system not accessible.

Hi,

Donot use #ioscan -funC disk when the disks are suspicious. It will read the informations from kernel structure.

Use #ioscan -fnC disk which will query and get the current status of the disk.

I suspect your disk is dead. dd command is the reliable source to check the disk. You may have to replace disk.
Best wishes,

Ganesh.
