Re: gcc & gmake

Shalom,

I don't think you will like this answer. But it is the truth.

gmake 3.81 is not provided or ported for HP-UX 10.20

This is because the OS is now six years past end of support.

You can search for this, but you wont find it at the porting and archive center.

Re: gcc & gmake

Shalom again,

You say:

I'm not wrong about it not coming from the porting and arhcive centre. With a few exceptions only software there is for supported versions of HP-UX

So basically you are asking us to find the source for software you have already installed on your system.

http://hpux.connect.org.uk/hppd/hpux/Gnu/gcc-4.2.3/

That is the current version of gcc.

I'm guessing without you providing any data that either this install was done a long time ago, or it did not come of the software porting and archive center.

http://www.icewalkers.com/Linux/Software/517110/GNU-Make.html

That is where google says it is.

Should be very interesting compiling it for HP-UX.

http://ftp.gnu.org/pub/gnu/make/

http://mirtchovski.com/p9/gmake/

Searches for hp-ux yield this site:

http://hpux.connect.org.uk/hppd/hpux/Gnu/make-3.81/

This is the most likely place to get working software, which you will have to compile.

It might work on 10.20, but I have my doubts.

By whom? Everyone on the planet?

Did I miss something, or is this the first
mention in this thread of the Porting and
Archiving Centre?

Some people sure seem to be free and easy
with claims of impossibility.

Life must be difficult in a place where
Google doesn't work. How do you manage?

Sadly, my oldest PA-RISC hardware is a c3700,
and I am unaware of a 10.20 installation kit
which I can use on it, so I know nothing, but
I would not be amazed if a modern GNU "make"
would work on it.

Now, GCC 4.x is something with which I
_would_ expect to have some trouble on 10.20,
but I have no evidence, one way or another.

Re: gcc & gmake

Well Steven,

I feel a bit parsed.

Naturally I assumed that gmake was installed on the system from the porting an archive center.

That is where I would go to get it, though clearly it could have been compiled on the system.

Overall I found this thread to be a learning experience, if a bit exasperating.

I urge the thread owner to report back and tell us how it turned out.

In the words of the eminent Alfred Doolittle:

way.
