getport: failed to connect, rhost printer problem
I am getting the following error in var/adm/syslog.dated/current lpr.log file trying to print via HP Jet Direct to Unix Printer
getport: failed to connect, rhost
I do not want to do a rcinet restart to restart the network services. Does anybody have any other ideas.
thanks
Karen

Re: getport: failed to connect, rhost printer problem
What's in /etc/printcap for this printer?
Can anyone (anywhere) get this printer to run
a job, or is it busy (or in some other kind
of trouble)?
Can you "ping" the printer, or have you any
other evidence that it's on the network?
Does resetting the printer help?

Re: getport: failed to connect, rhost printer problem
Thanks Steve
Yes I can ping the device, and nothing has changed in the printcap file (it has been running for years with this configuration)
blazer|BLAZER|lp84:\
:lf=/usr/adm/lp84err:\
:lp=:\
:rm=blazer:\
:rp=raw:\
:sd=/usr/spool/lpd84:\
:sf:\
:sh:
I can also do a test from the hp jet direct device and get the correct ipconfig. I have restarted the lpd deamon. We are running digital Unix 5.1a
