once I installed ghostview doing the following steps:
Installed the gv version for HP-UX 11.0 (my system is 11.11 TCOE). After that some libaries (/usr/local/lib/X11/libXaw3d.dl) have been missing. I installed them and it seems to run properly (I only opened ghostview without viewing a real .ps file!!).
Today I would like to open a .ps but gh complains with the following error:
"Exec of /opt/gs-5.10/bin/gs failed: No such file or directory"
Where can I obtain this files or how can I fix this otherwise?
Thanks for some hints,
Oliver

Re: ghostview can not open .ps
Would you give me some times. I am tyring to fix the problem. It seems the gv is trying to find "gs" in /opt/ rather than /usr/. and even when It finds it It seem they are not compatible!!.

Re: ghostview can not open .ps
thank you very much for your help. It would be very welcome if you will find some hints to solve this.
I had a look again to my remarks when I installed the gv and the corresponding libaries (I did it from the Utah server) and I do not see any dependencies which I should have installed. Can anybody give me a list of the main dependencies, maybe one is not satisfied at all.
I leave for two weeks now but I will read through the posts in this forum and I would be very lucky to find something helpfull.
Thanks to all and best regards,
Oliver

Re: ghostview can not open .ps
What version of ghostscript have you got on your system??
Download the ghostscript-7.05 ( if you already haven't got it on your system ):
http://hpux.connect.org.uk/hppd/hpux/PostScript/ghostscript-7.05
set the font path:
export GS_FONTPATH=/usr/local/share/ghostscript/fonts
Run "gv" again. That should work now!.
Let me know if you still have problem.
Cheers
__Mehdi
PS. I am about to update from ghostscript-7.05 to ghostscript-7.07. you may want to wait for that.

Re: ghostview can not open .ps
* GhostScript, the PS engine that Ghostview uses to show .ps documents, is not installed. Install it and use Ghostview's interface to change the path of GS.
* Ghostscript is installed but not in the correct path. Find where gs is in your system and change GS configuration.
You'll change GS path in "Advanced Options" menu option of Ghsotview.

Re: ghostview can not open .ps
finally I have to solve this problem now.
I tried all your uggestions (reinstall ghostview and export the envar) but unfortunately all did not help.
When I start gv I get the message that it is "unable to load ANY fontset" and when I try to open an .ps file I always get the message:
Exec of /opt/gs-5.10/bin/gs failed: No such file or directory
Error: PostScript interpreter failed in main window.
Do anybody have some more hints or ideas. I am really lost...
Thanks for more advices and best regards,
Oliver

Re: ghostview can not open .ps
If I type gv -v I get ghostview 3.5.8
Is this the correct release from the 7.5 download mentioned above?
Thanks,
Oliver

Re: ghostview can not open .ps
I am sorry. I did misunderstand your question in a first place. you have problem with gv not ghostscript. you download ghostscript from:
http://hpux.connect.org.uk/hppd/hpux/PostScript/ghostscript-7.07
and set the font path:
export GS_FONTPATH=/usr/local/share/ghostscript/fonts
And use ghostscript to view your ".ps" file.
gs "yourfile".ps
Meanwhile I will try to fix gv. Although gv is an old program.
Let me know how you get on with ghostview.
Thanks
Mehdi

Re: ghostview can not open .ps
thank you for your engaged help. GhostSCRIPT is running fine but I and exspecially the users of the maschine want to use ghostVIEW. Therefore it would be very nice and helpfull if you have an idea to solve the problems described. I myself have no idea.
Thanks and best regards,
Oliver
