Re: ghostview can not open .ps

Some new hints:

Correspondinmg to the message
"Can not open /opt/gs-5.10/bin/gs" I made a link from my working ghostSCRIPT in /usr/local/bin/gs to the position mentioned above.
Now my ghostview can open the file but the appearance is awfull.
I installed the newst gs version which was suggested above.
Can anybody now tell me how to get the version needed or how to adapt the gv to this version?

Thanks and best regards,

Oliver

P.S.: I don't mind to deinstall both and reinstall them if this is could be successfull...

Re: ghostview can not open .ps

Now I installed the 7.07 version of ghostview/ghostscript (by the way: Do I understand it right: It is one packege with these two programms and ghostVIEW is some framework around ghostSCRIPT?).
Unfortunately another error appeared: When I trz to start ghostscript now I got themessage:

/usr/lib/dld.sl: Can't open /usr/local/lib/libz.sl. No such file or directory.

Where can I get this sl from?

Thanks in advance,

Oliver

Re: ghostview can not open .ps

Hi Oliver,

deinstall everything to be in a clear state.

Then install these products in this order or copy them all in one depot.

zlib
jpeg
libpng
tiff
ghostscript7.05
Xaw3d
gv

These software can all get from this server.
http://hpux.connect.org.uk/hppd/hpux/PostScript/gv-3.5.8/

Klich the link above and follow the run-time dependencies.

Roland

BTW: the products will all installed in /opt /

Re: ghostview can not open .ps

Oliver,
libz is part of zlib.
http://hpux.connect.org.uk/hppd/cgi-bin/wwwtar?/hpux/Misc/zlib-1.1.4/zlib-1.1.4-sd-11.00.depot.gz

install libz. You can also download from
http://hpux.connect.org.uk/hppd/hpux/Misc/zlib-1.1.4/

I will suggest you to go by the way Roland has suggested.

Re: ghostview can not open .ps

Thanks RolandH for this advice. One question: How can I do a clean uninstall on hpux? I always made an update by overinstalling.

Thanks for this answer in advance, I will try the procedure you described when I know how to uninstall.

Re: ghostview can not open .ps

Have you installed your product with swinstall ?
Then you have to go this way.

1. swlist
#You will get a output what you have installed.
#You will see something like this

gostscript 7.05 ghostscript7.05 ...

Do an "swremove ghostscript". To remove a product with sremove you must give swremove the first argument from the swlist output. ( I think in this case is no reboot necessary, otherwise add "-x autoreboot=true" to your command.

Do it similar to gv and other product you have installed for that installation.

2. If you have a tarball installation I think you must only remove the dirs to be clean.

Re: ghostview can not open .ps

Oliver,
swremove will remove the software if you had installed a depot.

For the bundle name check with swlist -l bundle.

Re: ghostview can not open .ps

RolandH : Why should Oliver remove and reinstall the packages?? I think it is wrong advise you giving in here. He should only check to see what program he is missing and install them. That all he need to do!!!. Also for your information "swremove" doesn't always delete the actual files from /usr/local or /opt/*. some time you need to delete them manually. Another thing is the current version of ghostscript is 7.07, Why are you keep refering to 7.05??

Oliver: The problem is you didn't have and gs installed on your machine!!. Or the installation path is not in your PATH.Otherwise gv would have bypass "/opt/gs-5.10/bin/gs" and use the gs that was installed in "/usr/local/bin". You must make sure you have all the dependency installed first.
