Re: ghostview can not open .ps

Thank you all very much for all the advices. I finally choosed the version of mehdi to add the installation of the software products listed by RolandH. So both of you helped me very much. It is running fine now (only the quality of the output is not as good as I thought it would be... ? it looks like a high compressed jpeg (any hint for this?/Don't know wethher it depends on the file quality)).

Best regards, Oliver

Re: ghostview can not open .ps

Hi Mehdi and Oliver,

that is a decission what must be made by oliver. I do not know what he has really did.
I mean a clear state is a point of view where we all know how the system looks like. And that is the only point from where I can five a advice to oliver. Everything else is dancing in the dark !!!!

The recommendation for ghostview7.05 was a cut & paste. Yes I saw there is a new one. Oliver take the 7.07 version, please.

Re: ghostview can not open .ps

Hi RolandH,

as I mentioned before: Thank you for your straigh and save advice to go back to a save point and walk from there. If the lazy way would not have been working I would have followed your solution. I am a little bit in a hurry, therefore I first tried to bring it up running in the short and somewhat really dark way.

Before I proceed I checked by find what is missing and installed these missing products (There were some of the targets you listed really missing, so I supposed that they are the reason. Exspecially because the messages of gv correspond with your list step by step.)).

So again a lot of thanks to everybody. It helps and gv is working now.

Best regards,

oliver

Re: ghostview can not open .ps

I followed Randalls advise above.. however I get this error whenever I tried to execuse ghostscript:

GNU Ghostscript 7.07 (2003-05-17)
Copyright (C) 2003 artofcode LLC, Benicia, CA. All rights reserved.
This software comes with NO WARRANTY: see the file PUBLIC for details.
/usr/lib/dld.sl: Unresolved symbol: jpeg_std_error (code) from gs
Abort(coredump)

I symlinked the libs from /usr/local/lib to /lib and that didn't seem to help... any ideas?

Many thanks!

Re: ghostview can not open .ps

Hi Glen,

I have the same problem with ghostscript (pdf2ps)
/usr/lib/dld.sl: Unresolved symbol: jpeg_std_error (code) from gs

This doesn't appear if pdf2ps is run with root.

Did you solve this problem ?

Re: ghostview can not open .ps

Hi Oliver,

this is an answer by Didier Maillot:

just unset SHLIB_PATH, run pdf2ps and reset SHLIB_PATH:

# if SHLIB_PATH is set then pdf2ps ends with error
SAVE_SHLIB=$SHLIB_PATH
unset SHLIB_PATH

# ajoute OA a la fin du fichier sinon le message d'erreur suivant appara├Г┬оt
# **** This file has a corrupted %%EOF marker, or garbage after the %%EOF.
# **** The file was produced by Oracle PDF driver:
# **** please notify the author of this software
# **** that the file does not conform to Adobe's published PDF
# **** specification. Processing of the file will continue normally.
echo "" >> $1

# conversion du pdf en ps
pdf2ps $1 $2

# restauration de la valeur d'origine pour SHLIB_PATH
SHLIB_PATH=$SAVE_SHLIB
unset SAVE_SHLIB
