Re: growing /tmp file system

Add disks to the vg (see vgextend). Add extents to the lv (see lvextend). Increase /tmp file system (see extendfs). The EXAMPLES section of the lvextend man page is good.

Sorry - one last question:

Why in heaven's name would you need a 100+ GB /tmp filesystem?

Re: growing /tmp file system

Shalom,

The /tmp file system has traditionally been used for temporary files needed by applications running on the system.

The default permissions on are visible to all.

This is not an appropriate place to keep permanent data or sensitive files.

Re: growing /tmp file system

Hi:

Properly speaking, *applications* should use '/var/tmp' for their temporary files, leaving '/tmp' to the domain of the operating system for its small needs.

Hi ,

/tmp and 100GB, bad idea!!!!

any specific requirement ?? (if any, not recommended).

Which OS?
Which Hardware?

What you are planning do about other 200GB

Re: growing /tmp file system

I dont think its a typo - 300GB & 100GB.

The expert have spoken.
I can't for see any need for a 100GB /tmp (am no expert)...

What's the current size? May you should think of trimming large files - cron / SAM
Our Prod Server uses around 30% of the total 500MB /tmp

Hi,

it would be nice to know your exact os.
