how enable wake on lan on hp-ux

Hi. I read that is possible to enable the "wake on lan" feature on the System Configuration Menu. My question is: it's possible to enable the feature also with a shell command on hp-ux? (something that would be similar to the "consvar -s wol_enable on" command on Tru64).
Thanks!

Try the "lanboot" command on the EFI shell (Integrity servers).
Are you trying to Ignite a server?

Why would you want that? Servers are suppose to run 24x7.

Re: how enable wake on lan on hp-ux

@Yalla:
I'm searching a way to set the wake on lan option thru an O.S. command and not thru an EFI command, because I have a lot of servers and I don't want to go there physically one by one.

@Dennis Handly:
each rule (servers don't stop) has its exceptions and I need to stop and re-wake servers for energy savvy behaviour.

thanks!

I seriously doubt that HP-UX knows how to do this? It isn't windows.
What about peripherals?

It's not windows, but, as I said, Tru64 on Integrity can set the wol with the command: "consvar -s wol_enable on"

That could be the issue. I don't think HP-UX is designed like windows to do this.

I wasn't aware of Tru64 on Integrity? Just OpenVMS.

For good reason. This is the Alpha SRM
console. (And, apparently on some fancier
hardware than mine, as I see no wol_enable
variable on my Alpha systems (workstations).)

Luckily, I have no idea if HP's IA64 hardware
and/or firmware can do wake-on-lan, let alone
if there's a way to enable it without talking
directly to the EFI consolee.

You can use Integrated Lights-out(iLO) to start and stop the server.

Have a look at following thread:

Re: how enable wake on lan on hp-ux

The thing you have to remember with HP-UX is that it is either running or not. There is no "sleep" state like Windows can go into.

If you could somehow shut the server down when there is no activity, it would be all the way down. Then if something could sense network activity, it would have to completely restart. The OS would have to come up and all applications would have to restart. This could take several minutes, which I don't think would what you want.

While I understand the need for energy savings and being "green" there are limits to what can be done. I think you have just reached one of those limits.

While it may be a good idea, I don't think it is possible, or practical, to implement on an HP-UX server.
