how many lan cards should be set for heartbeat transmisstion?

I have 2 more specific question with
regards the configurations:

1. I plan to configure 2 lan cards for heartbeat, in additoin to
the primary card. Somebody says it is too many. Would that be too
many for heartbeat's ? and why?
Because the primary card will be configured for the heartbeat, so
all togetehr, we will have 3 cards for heartbeat.

2. Can the latest version of SG 11.16 work with hpux 11.0? We
have to use hpux 11.0 becuase the particular application requires.
When HP will be ending the support of hpux 11.0?

I'd also try to have three heartbeat connections, the primary on a dedicated lan between the nodes without any other traffic, one on a lan which can also be used for status updates and other inter-node-traffic and one on the public lan.

while it's questionable to have heartbeat on the public lan, I think one should run it, because it's really a loss of face towards Your users when only the private networks fail and cluster breaks although it could still work fine.
yesterday I stood at the edge. Today I'm one step ahead.

Hi

See
http://docs.hp.com/en/B3936-90079/ch02s02.html

2)Not documented for 11.00 so no

3)11.00 is already obsolete to the extent that there is no more development and patching. This is in alignment with the obsolescence of HP-UX 11.0 on March 31, 2004.

No less that 2, 3 is a good number. You can save a litte money by using the 3rd as the built in network connection on your server. Use separate cards, Dont buya 4 port card and plug em all in there hehe, it may work but its not good practice.
Also consider putting your heartbeats on two separate switches beween your clustered servers. This way if your network goes serviceguard will not freak out.

Servicegaurd A.11.14 is the last release for 11.00 and will be supported until 11.00 goes out of support which is December 31, 2006.

Re: how many lan cards should be set for heartbeat transmisstion?

1. Put as many of your lans as you can as HEARTBEAT_IP

2. No. Serviceguard A.11.15 and above is for HP-UX 11.11 and above. Version A.11.14 is the last version for HP-UX 11.00, which ends support 31st December 2006.

Re: how many lan cards should be set for heartbeat transmisstion?

One more question to follow up.

Can I use a L2000-44 system to be the failover server for the system L3000-75 within a 2 node cluster?

Thanks!

I am pretty sure we can use different model of systems in the same cluster in which one is L3000-75 and failover one is L2000-44, but just want to make sure with you guys.
