Re: how to identify new luns?

What is the storage?

for XP arrays: #xpinfo
for EVA arrays: #evainfo

in 11.23, you should run #ioscan -fn
followed by #insf -v
to create device special files for the new lun/luns. You can then also see in the syslog, which new devices were discovered.

in 11.31, running #ioscan -fnN is enough, as the DSF will be created automatically for you.

Re: how to identify new luns?

Dear friend

if u ran the ioscan -fnC disk

I see many luns

new luns presented don't have any device file attached until u run the insf command.
u can also use xpinfo -i and evainfo -i command
depends on the storage.

thanks and regards

Re: how to identify new luns?

now i understood,

i have one more query here, i.e

1)After assiging luns from storage ,
we canot see the device file ( when we run xpinfo -i or evainfo)at server side.
2) after ran the ioscan -fnCdisk and insf-e disk (in 11.23)and ioscan -fnCdisk (11.31) , then only device file will generate.

now , here is my confusion that,, now how can i find that newly created device file for that LUN.so that i can create a new vg by using that devicefile...

please clarify my confusions

Thanks in Advance.

Re: how to identify new luns?

After running the ioscan + insf , only then the device special file can be seen in the #xpinfo -i / #evainfo -i output.

So you need to compare the output from xpinfo/evainfo with ioscan and have a talk with your storage admin, what LUN (CU:LDEV for XP series, or LUN# for VA/EVA series) has been presented to the server.
Although you still didn't tell us what storage are you using.

Re: how to identify new luns?

So ask storage admin what luns/disks exactly they have presented to the server, run ioscan + insf (only in 11.23) and compare the output of xpinfo -i / evainfo -i , to get the device special files...
