For sharing files over the network you need to use a kind of network sharing protocol/framework.

Each OS I'm aware of need this.

So you can assure the correct byte order, access management, prevent data corruption due to filesystem cache etc ...

There is a broad choice of protocols, but using a "common" protocol assures interoperability between different operating systems.

i suspect that they wondering if hp-ux has a file system similar to ocfs.
