Have a look at the /etc/rc.config.d/namesvrs file. This is where you control whether or not NIS starts and whether the server starts as an NIS client or server.

The file is a text file and is documented very well.

Have a read through the file and come back with any questions you may have after that.

Hi again

Here are some details

configuration file is
/etc/rc.config.d/namesvrs

In the /etc/rc.config.d/namesvrs file, set the NIS_MASTER_SERVER and NIS_CLIENT variables to 1, as follows:
NIS_MASTER_SERVER=1
NIS_CLIENT=1

the file you are looking for is

/etc/rc.config.d/namesvrs

the valriable names in this file should make some sense on what they affect and control.
