hp 11.00 on c3700 can not log in - xwindows keeps restarting

I have just loaded a fresh install of HP 11.00
I get the hour glass on the black screen, then I get a beep, and it restarts all over again. (not from the beginning but the black screen to grey screen with hour glass and on and so forth.)
I need to try to break into the cycle to get the command line login but I can not.

How do I do this?

Hi,

You can stop the boot process and run hp-ux in single-user mode. Then rename the script:
"/sbin/rc3.d/ Sxxxdtlogin.rc -> /sbin/init.d/dtlogin.rc" (i.e. ".Sxxxdtlogin.rc" ).
Then, you can start your system without the graphical enviroment.
The problem might be something related to name resolution or network settings, so if you want to use the X windows enviroment, try to see if you are facing such problems.

I knew I had a DNS issue, (needed to change host name) but just could not get out of that loop.
Worked like a charm!
