hp server rp7420 hang

hi all
my main problem is that my server rp7420 is hang and this is the third time.
i dont know what happen. i cannot login to the server by telnet or ftp or anything else, also i cannot login through MP the server is hang , the only thing that i can do is ping to the IP.
then i power oFF the server by unplug the power cable, then when i start the server i found that the main hard disk who contain the HP-UX 11 i v1 was failed and corrupted and i replace it with new one and install the hp-ux again and this is the third time i replace the
HDD with new one.
any help please i dont know what is the problem.
is there any program inside hp-ux to monitor the hardware

Hi Tareq,

Please check the MP,SL,fpl logs.
Server may go hang, may be any script or cron running in background.
Keep keen on it.
U need to check the HARDWARE RAM if ur system is in Support check with HP, as ur telling its the 3rd time ur facing the same issue.

do you have mirrored disk?

how long does your system works before hanging?
if its short can you keep login in console and get hardware logs VFP,SL etc.

I guess, your 9000 series server has completed economic life period , replaced disks were not new but refurbished ones.
I faced this problem too. You are not alone. So call local HP and replace disk, only add your about your suspect on disk slot OR chassis body ,as might have an electrical problem.

1.Please check the earthing properly, or any leakage current.

2. Please confirm whether the root disk is mirrored. If mirrored replace both disks.

the only thing that i can do is ping to the IP.

==> Which IP, OS or MP?
==> Are you usin the same switch to connect both MP Lan and the OS?

Did you create an RCA case with HP?

Seems extreme removing power cords to power off????

This could trash the install!

its probably some process still running and not quitting, you need to see if there are any clues in the logs of the MP. and reboot the server if needed with a reset from the MP. not just pull the plugs.

how many npars? is there any vpars? and is it at the same time of day it hangs? do applications still run?

Vishnu :- i cannot login to MP OR OS to check anything, i cannot login to the server by telnet or ftp .
Kapil :- i dont have mirrored disk for OS & i cannot login to MP OR OS.
Hakki :- what you said is good the server has completed economic life period and maybe there is an electrical problem.
Anoop :- you also focus in electrical problem, maybe.
Sooraj :- you ask me and i will answer, 1- i cannot login to the both MP and the console, (2-) which IP, also the both OS and MP, (3-) not the same switch (4-) yes in the three times i replaced the HDD because they are failed.
Andrew :- when i cannot login to MP or OS that mean i cannot reboot or shutdown the server or to check the logs.

You said, ping to the IPs of MP and OS is fine.

Are you trying to ssh to MP IP ? Try telnet to MP IP.

Have you checked your MP configuration, why it is not accessible to you?
