hppi & addqueue: unable to add HP 3055 to HPUX 11.11

I was adding 4 printer queues with hppi, worked fine for 3, barfed on the 3055 with :
" Enter the network printer name or IP address (q - quit):

!! is NOT an acceptable name!!
Either it is NOT a network printer or this host is denied access to it! "

web'd into it, config is plain vanilla and wide open.
checked here in forums and found Bill Hassel's note on addqueue -- tried it, but it failed with "could not contact "

the printer is pingable from the HPUX server, there are no network acl's in the way, one of the other printers was on the same subnet, but another switch.

any ideas?

Can you telnet to it from the HP-UX server?

network connectivity was there. I think the problem is that the multi-function devices (scan, fax, print) don't respond properly to the initial query from /opt/hpnpl/bin/hppi. My initial addqueue also failed, but I found a different thread that gave other options and that worked:

addqueue -h -q -L PCL -i 257.cfg <../admin/printers/>


Mr. Hassel suggested the 257.cfg as most generic and my user is testing this setup with her forms now.. so far, so good.

My guess is that you could use addqueue like this to setup queue files with printer completely offline.

Thanks to prior questions and solutions I was able to resolve the issue with a good search in the ITRC forums!

Since you go the printer added OK, you can now download the 3005 printer script and replace the model.orig with the correct script. You can replace the script without stopping the spooler.
