Re: hpux sys admin
Shivkumar!
There is one word that defines sys admin very well.
We are what people calls " Do boys " or girls.
We basically do whatever management wants us to do. If they want to implement a new application, it will go through us first, if a new phone system that is not too big, most likely through us too.
The list can go on and on depending on your boss :-)
But remember, a good sys admin will only work hard when the need is there!
Regards,
Jaime.

Re: hpux sys admin
The answer is "It depends".
In my experience, as my shop has grown, my duties become more and more focused. At first, I handled everything from OS issues to storage to backups. As time went out and the shop became larger, the main parts of some duties were given to newly created groups. For example, we now have a backup group. This group has primary responsiblity for backups. However, I still have to maintain the knowledge as I am frequently needed to help.

Re: hpux sys admin
Hi Shiv,
As a sysadmin my job is to handle the OS and the SAN external storage along with setting up networking/account/filesystems and to help the application folks. I also run cables manage the switches and handle backups. What ever else is needed.
