Any alternate idea to modify the root file system size?

Re: hpux system

First question -- Why do you need to? The root filesystem (the / filesystem) should not grow.

The easist and most trustworthy way is to create a make_tape_recovery tape, boot from it, and then resize your LVs as appropriate.

Re: hpux system

Oh , I can .Thanks.
Ok , just in detail .
1)Have to create Recovery tape
2) boot from the above said media
3) Resize the logical volume that / resides on.
Am i missing any thing?

Mirth,

You will basically be reinstalling the OS in order to resize /.

I would recommend making two ignite tapes (just in case) before starting the reconfiguration of /

Be sure you have a good back up of all you data before you re-ignite the system.

Re: hpux system

Make sure its a make_tape_recovery

Watch the boot from the console carefully.

There will be a prompt to let you intervene manually in the Ignite restore. then you can reinstall the system with a larger root volume.

Re: hpux system

Hi Mirth:

If you use:

# /opt/ignite/bin/make_tape_recovery -x inc_entire=vg00 -I -v -a /dev/rmt/0mn

...to make your recovery tape, the '-I' option will cause you to interact with Ignite when you boot from the tape so created.

Choose the advanced mode of installation and you will be able to size any or all of the filesystems to your tastes.

Regards!
