Re: hpux11iv2 & v3 difference

Hi:

To answer what's different/new in release N and release N+ is to examine the release notes for release N+. In this case, look at each update release for 11.31 beginning with:

http://docs.hp.com/en/5991-6469/index.html

For the most recent update release, read:

http://docs.hp.com/en/5900-0578/index.html

As you peruse this documentation you will find links to other in-depth documents too.

Regards!

Re: hpux11iv2 & v3 difference

Shalom,

More dynamic kernel parameters, once properly configured, 11.31 has given us a 20% performance improvement on similar systems.

Also note from the docs you were given. If making a choice between 11.23 and 11.31, the End of life date is December 31 2013 on 11.23 and December 31 2017 on 11.31

There is better virtualization support on 11.31

Re: hpux11iv2 & v3 difference

Start here:
http://h20338.www2.hp.com/enterprise/w1/en/os/hpux11i-v3-upgrade-process.ht[..]

Before you start anything, download this program. It is mandatory to run this check program to verify that your hardwarte and firmware will run 11.31. Note that *NO* PA-RISC systems will run 11.31 unless they are cell-based (such as rp7410, rp7420, rp8400, rp8420, and SuperDomes). rx models (Itanium/Integrity) are OK but look at the results of installing and running the msv2v3check program:

https://h20392.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=MSV2V3Check

Unfortunately, 11.31 is a lot more complicated by the existence of several updates. Here are the notes for all of them:

http://h20338.www2.hp.com/enterprise/w1/en/os/hpux11i-v3-overview.html

Look at the notes at the bottom of the page.

Also checkout the QuickSpecs page:

Not completely true. The rp34xx and rp44xx (non-cell based) systems are supported with 11.31.

> Patrick: Thanks for the clarification. I should have looked at the list more carefully. It is still a fairly exclusive list for older hardware.
