If I give 10% entitlement to each vcpu... then I can have 10 vcpu's per a pcpu..

Answer to our question:

You can run 11.23 guests
Windows Guests
Linux guests.

Your problem is lack of memory.

From manual:

The minimum and maximum values are boundary values, which are enforced if the number of
virtual CPUs this virtualmachines changes in the future. The default value is one (1) virtual CPU
for the virtual machine. The number of virtual CPUs should not be set higher than physical
number of CPUs on the host, as this can cause undesirable behavior.
The default minimum and maximum boundary values are a minimum of one (1) virtual CPU,
and a maximum of eight (8) virtual CPUs.


1<= virtual CPU <= 8

I have total 10 physical cores in the VM Host

My requirement is 5 physical cores and 10 vcpu's per VM Guest .

1. Is this possible
2. If not how to achive this

In Table 3-3 Configuration Limits the second point...

# vCPUs/pCPU â Maximum ---> 20

IMHO this means a pCPU can do 20 vCPUs.

yet again Grayh you sem determined to *not* read the manual yourself... do you have some kind of manual allergy? ;o)

If you really have 5 physical CPUs (cores) on your VM host, then any given VM guest on that VM host can have at most 5 vCPUs - it makes no sense for a VM guest to have more vCPUs than the VM host has pCPUs - after all, where would the host run the processes on those extra vCPUS?

Of course you can have more than one VM guest on the host and each VM guest can have up to 5 vCPUs ... you just have to do the math:

so you could have 2 x guests with 5 vCPUs and 50% entitlement

or 4 guests with 5 vCPUs and 25% entitlement

or 5 VM guests with 1 vCPU and 100% entitlement

or (the extreme and you probably don't have the memory for this) 100 VM guests with 1 CPU and 5% entitlement
