Whenever I invoke the hwgr , it gives the following error message:
/sbin/hwmgr -scan scsi
Memory fault(coredump)
Any ideas on how to resolve this.
The file permissions and size are :
>ls -l /sbin/hwmgr
-rwxr----- 1 bin bin 143632 Aug 25 2000 /sbin/hwmgr

Re: hwmgr is giving Memory fault(coredump)
type? Around here (on an XP1000):
urtx# ls -l /sbin/hwmgr
-rwxr-xr-x 1 bin bin 192960 Dec 5 2006 /sbin/hwmgr
urtx# sizer -v
HP Tru64 UNIX V5.1B (Rev. 2650); Mon Feb 19 11:57:07 CST 2007
urtx# /usr/sbin/dupatch -track -type patch_level | grep -i 'patch kit'
Gathering details of relevant patch kits...
Patch Kit 5: T64V51BB26AS0005-20050502 OSF540
Patch Kit 6: T64V51BB27AS0006-20061208 OSF540
Also, around here, "man hwmgr" does not
suggest that "hwmgr -scan scsi" is a valid
command. However, "hwmgr view devices" and
"hwmgr show scsi" seem to do things.

Re: hwmgr is giving Memory fault(coredump)
I would like to smack whoever decided the man pages for hwmgr should be separated into subsections. If you know what to look for you can find it under "man hwmgr_ops".

Re: hwmgr is giving Memory fault(coredump)
hwmgr_xxxx topics, but not that one.
It's hard to say what's worse, a "man" page
which never ends, or one with unhelpful
references to other pages. (Insert something
nice about HELP on VMS here.)

Re: hwmgr is giving Memory fault(coredump)
Thanks very much for your responses.
Did as you said.
This is the result:
#sizer -v
Compaq Tru64 UNIX V5.1 (Rev. 732); Mon Jan 1 10:05:15 SGT 1996
#/usr/sbin/dupatch -track -type history | grep -i 'patch kit
ssgp09_sgpsjmo>/usr/sbin/dupatch -track -type history | grep -i 'patch kit'
#
(no info rec'd)
So from this I can infer ghat some patches are needed. Can you pls advise on the patches required.
hwmgr -show scsi also yields a coredump.
We have 2 Tru64 Unix systems. The other is the same OS ver as this one but the hwmgr on the other is working fine.
Pls advise further.
Thks

SolutionBy the way your version of Tru64 dropped out of support a long time ago.

Re: hwmgr is giving Memory fault(coredump)
If I were you, I would install latest patch kit for 5.1 which is:
http://ftp.support.compaq.com.au/pub/patches/osf/v5.1/t64v51b20as0006-20030210.tar
