Re: i want to find out the root cause of reboot

Hi Samay,
What model this server is if it is a PA Box check if you have a TS99 file in /var/tombstones directory and if it is a itanium system check if there is a MCA file with date and time stamp of the reboot if it is there then you would need to open a call with HP to analyse it. You say that console is not accessible are able to access the MP commands or that is also not accessible if you are able to access the MP/GSP then you can collect the MP:CM> SL , CL , FPL logs and send it to HP they will be able to find it from there why it crahsed.

Also is there any entry in shutdownlog about panic or reboot , are there any messages in OLDsyslog.log before the reboot timestamp which is showing any error.

Abhi

Re: i want to find out the root cause of reboot

Check all below files..

/var/adm/syslog/OLD.syslog.log
/etc/OLD.rc.log
/etc/rc.log
/var/opt/resmon/log/event.log
dmesg,
/var/tombstones/ts99 -> check if its valid ?

echo "selall\ninformation;wait\ninfolog\ndone\nexit\nok" | /usr/sbin/cstm >cstm.out

from cstm.out -> check for any clues for reboot

>>My console is alos not accessible.<<

meaning after the reboot ..?

You can under the Console "Show Logs"
MP> SL
SL>E

if no entry for Feb 21 and Feb 22, so we can say this is not a panic or kernel crash. You may have consider situations that power is comletely removed from the server...

Re: i want to find out the root cause of reboot

yo can check various logs , if its because of some power failure then no crash dump and u wont be able to find anything.
Depends upon if its crashed or something.
