icp_port from squid

hi

could someone explain me pls what does it mean icp_port from squid ?

# TAG: icp_port
# The port number where Squid sends and receives ICP queries to
# and from neighbor caches. The standard UDP port for ICP is 3130.
# Default is disabled (0).
#Default:
# icp_port 0
#
icp_port 3130

what's the meaning of neighbor caches ?

Re: icp_port from squid

In simple terms it means if you have two squid servers i.e. multiple site web farm with a squid in front the icp_port is the port they will talk to each other upon for maintaining the cache state. If you only have a single squid then set to '0' to diable it.

P.s. if you do have multiple squid don't use the standard 3130 port use a different port number.

Hope this helps,
