ignite backup to DVDR

Has anyone setup a DVDR on an HP in place of a DAT for doing ignite backups? Given the cost difference in DVD vs. DAT media, I would hope that this is a supported solution by HP.

Re: ignite backup to DVDR

hi

This is part of the ehancements of the new version B.4.1 o Ignite.
To see all the information about this version access the link below.

http://www.software.hp.com/products/IUX/download.html#down11

These major Ignite-UX changes occurred in the past year:

As part of the September 2002 B.4.0 release, Ignite-UX now supports installation on Itanium Processor Family (IPF) systems and cold-installing HP-UX 11i Version 1.6. If using this version of Ignite-UX, you should be aware of these issues:

Tape recovery is not supported at this time.

Installation on PA-RISC clients is not supported.

Network installation from an IPF client requires unique installation instructions. Refer to the Ignite-UX for 11i Version 1.6 Network Installation Instructions.

Re: ignite backup to DVDR

No way to do this directly from Ignite (make_*_recovery) that I know of. The problem is that there is no built-in support for writing to CD or DVD in HP-UX. It's a whole different beast than writing to a tape.

I believe there are some threads in the Forums that talk about creating a CD from a make_net_recovery archive.

Re: ignite backup to DVDR

Sorry, I put the wrong part of the information.

The /opt/ignite/lbin/instl_combine utility has been enhanced to allow for operation on DVD images over 2GB in size. This enhanced capability is only available in the B Version of Ignite-UX. See the instl_combine(1M) manpage for details.

You might want to take a look at this question from the Ignite FAQ as well:
