impossible boot

Hi. I??ve got problems booting a HP9000 A180. There was problems accesing to the server (it was impossible to access the console, no response to root login). Then I decided to turn off the machine. When It starts in ISL I ran "hpux -lm (;0)/safe/vmunix", and the response is "Boot device not ready"
"Retrying boot device" and now the server doesn??t boot.

Any help please?!?!?

Re: impossible boot

Hi Jose,

There will be some hardware problem in your server. At the boot console menu, enter "sea" command to search for all bootable device and find out whether it detects all disks. Check for the boot disk. If you have a root mirror disk, try booting from that.

Also check the PIM information for any type of hardware errors in the system. Check for any type of loose connection/cable.

Re: impossible boot

mmh... extrange... I just booted from the bootable disk with "booot p1" and was ok, but it doesn??t recognize the single-user command "hpux -lm ...."

Anyway thanks.

Re: impossible boot

Hi,

Suggest you look at your system logs to see if there is anything there to tell you.

/var/adm/syslog/syslog.log
/var/opt/resmon/event.log
root's mail

It could be that your primary root disk is on the way out.

Re: impossible boot

Hello Cesar,
Do you have the /safe/stand file?
Is that file located on boot file system?
Try just hpux -lm without any additional parameters.
