Any 10/100/1000 capable device very well aught to be able to autonegotiate correctly, NIC or switchport. The only reason it would be hardcoded would be clinging to ancient folklore. Some ancient 10/100 only kit might not but that is old enough to warrant replacement today anyway :) So I'll point folks at http://www.hp.com/go/procurve to fix that issue :)

I think my fingers are hard coded to follow fibre with channel ;~))
