Are you running the command with "root" access /privlidges

Re: lanscan - Unable to open device file

Try "ioscan -kfnClan". If that errors as well, try recreating your device files with "insf -e".

Unable to open device file /dev/dlpi

Device file /dev/dlpi does not exist.

Could be Device has been corrupted. please try

#ioscan -fn
#ioscan -fnC lan
# insf -e -> update the device file & drivers

Does this file exist?
# ll /dev/dlpi

Any recent changes to server?
What about other network related commands like linkloop etc? Do they work fine?

Re: lanscan - Unable to open device file

Hi,

try tusc:

tusc lanscan | grep dlpi

You find tusc onto Porting site:

http://hpux.connect.org.uk/hppd/hpux/Sysadmin/tusc-7.10/

If lanscan cannot access dlpi device ilfe you'll see:

# tusc lanscan|grep dlpi
open("/dev/dlpi", O_RDWR, 0343) ................................................................................... ERR#2 ENOENT

If it can access dlpi device file you'll see:

open("/dev/dlpi", O_RDWR, 0171120) ................................................................................ = 4

Maybe something is still wrong with /dev/dlpi device file if lanscan cannot access it.
If so please also post

lsdev | grep -e 72 -e dlpi

HTH.

Fabio

Re: lanscan - Unable to open device file

Hi,

lsdev output seems ok and what about tusc output? That is also important to understand where lanscan fails.

Fabio

Re: lanscan - Unable to open device file

Hi,

do you have lsof to understand if something else is locking /dev/dlpi?

lsof | grep dlpi

Otherwise do you have an occasion to reboot the system? I know it's an extreme solution but it seems something is keeping dlpi device file which results BUSY in tusc output.

Re: lanscan - Unable to open device file

Hello Joao,

Have you checked to see if you have these patches? The igelan patch mentions various diffculties communicating with dlpi.

PHNE_37324 IGELAN 1000Base-SX/T B.11.23.[01-0712] patch

This also updates dlpi and enables newer cards

PHNE_36839 11.23 LAN cumulative patch

I hope this is of some use

Thank you very much for the feedback.
