I am doing one tar in HP-UX 11.11, but when it arrive at 2Megas it stop and outs this message:
Tar: end of tape
Tar: to continue, enter device/file name when ready or null string to quit.
I have space in the filesystem, and all its ok.

Filesystem kbytes used avail %used Mounted on
/dev/vg00/lvol9 10485760 10142500 327030 97% /filesystemA

Re: limit of tar??
You can use gnu tar ( http://hpux.cs.utah.edu/hppd/hpux/Gnu/tar-1.15/ ) or I believe there is a patch for HP's tar that will allow for files > 2GB.

Re: limit of tar??
For backup I would recomend fbackup.
You can also use GNU-tar if you download it.

Re: limit of tar??
if you are taring to disk, also ensure that your partition is set up to cope with files > 2Gb.
fsadm /dev/vg?/r?????
should show largefiles.

Re: limit of tar??
For backups though fbackup is a little easier to use, but it goes straight to tape.
