linux bare metal restore

Hi experts!

Is there a Data Protector product that can do bare metal restoration of a RHEL system?

Thanks!

Re: linux bare metal restore

Does it have to be DP?
Mondorescue does that just fine, and is free.

Re: linux bare metal restore

No. There are some kind of Disaster Recovery for Unix platforms that requires a minimal OS running with the agent for the restore.

Consult this document:

Por que hacerlo dificil si es posible hacerlo facil? - Why do it the hard way, when you can do it the easy way?

Re: linux bare metal restore

Ok. It doesn't have to be DP. If I use Mondorescue or Acronis, and I back up the OS image to tape, can I boot from the tape as well?

Re: linux bare metal restore

If your tape supports OBDR, yes. Else you'll still be able to boot your backup image but you'll need a boot disk.

If you need more details, it's all in the mondorescue documentation.
