log files and its uses
we have a HP-UX server running on 11.23 the server goes down on its on suddenly.which log file can we access to see what caused the system to shutdown...
may be this is very simple but am a beginner to this profile

check this,it will help you...
/var/adm/syslog/syslog.log
All events are stored in /var/opt/resmon/log/event.log file

I use 11.11, so apologies if anything has changed.
Check /var/adm/syslog/OLDsyslog.log - the present one will only show you what has happened since the reboot.
Also check:
/etc/shutdownlog (in case someone shut the server down, rather thn it crashing)
/var/adm/crash
/var/tombstones
Mark Syder (like the drink but spelt different)
