lpfc module reinstall on new kernel

here is the plan i have for reinstalling the lpfc module on my RHEL AS 3 U8 system after the kernel upgrade.

let me know your view on the plan and any other suggestions are welcome.

1.Boot in single user mode with new kernel 2.4.21-53.ELsmp

2.reinstall the lpfc rpm

3.Copy the old /lib/modules/2.4.21-47.ELsmp/kernel/drivers/scsi/lpfcdd.o to the corresponding new kernel

location(/lib/modules/2.4.21-53.ELsmp/kernel/drivers/scsi/lpfcdd.o)

4.Take a backup and Edit the /etc/modules.conf and comment the entries for lpfc
# grep lpfc /etc/modules.conf
alias scsi_hostadapter1 lpfcdd
alias scsi_hostadapter2 lpfcdd

5.take a backup of the existing img and create a new one.

mkinitrd /boot/initrd-2.4.21-53.ELsmp.img 2.4.21-53.ELsmp

6.revert the changes on /etc/modules.conf

7.Reboot to check everything works fine with the 3rd party kernel module

Re: lpfc module reinstall on new kernel

Hello Santhosh,

Your plan looks good.

I have two more options for you.

Option 1:

1. Install the new kernel
2. Run "/opt/hp/hp-lpfc/master.sh -m 2.4.21-53.ELsmp"
3. Reboot to the new kernel.

Option 2:
1. Install new kernel
2. Reboot to the new kernel.
3. Run "/opt/hp/hp-lpfc/master.sh"
4. Reboot the server.

Hope this helps.
