lvextend exceeds the allowable limit

Good Day,

I have a logical volume with the size of 1T and i tried to extend it to 1125T. upon extending the LV via SAM i encoutered the error below: Can you please tell me what are the parameters that i need to change?...

The size entered exceeds the allowable limit that can be used with
this type of file system. The size has been rounded down to the
nearest multiple of 32 Mbytes (the physical extent size) that does
not exceed the limit.

Re: lvextend exceeds the allowable limit

Hi Samarah,

you are having 35192 PEs that means total size of your VG is
35192*32 = 1126144MB or
1099.75 GB or
1.07397 TB

of this u already allocated 32767 PEs to some logical volumes so
32767*32=1048544 MB or
1023.968 GB or

so now you are having only 2425 PEs left i.e you are having only
77600 MB or
75.78125GB or
0.074TB of free diskspace to allocate.

SO if you want to increase the size of the LV to 1125T you have to add lot of disk to the server and extend the volume group and then logical volume.

Moreover it is not possible since maximum size of the logical volume in the LVM 1.0 is 16 TB and LVM 2.0 is 256 TB.

kindly check wether it is GB or TB

Re: lvextend exceeds the allowable limit

Hi samarah ,

You can extend your VG only till 1099 TB ..

Calculation is like this

CUrrent allocated size = 32767*32=1048544 MB = 1023GB

Available size = Free PE (2425) * PE size (32) = 77600 MB = 74GB

You can extend your current 1023 Gb byy only 75 GB = 1099 GB

And your are trying 1125 which is not possible. There is no free space . YOu hv to extend the VG by new luns

Maximum size of LV supported till 11.23 is 2TB. Still if you install the patch

s700_800 11.23 LVM Striped/Mirror + 16TB LV Enablement PHCO_37939

You can have 16TB LV. still you need to consided which filesystem you are using.

However " 1125TB " , you will not be able to do.

I think you confused with GB and TB
