mail started giving problem on HP_UX 11.31 after patching.
Hi,
We have oracle E-Business Suite R12 running on HP_UX 11.31. Recently our system administrator applied some patches to HP_UX, after this activity we are unable to use oracle workflow notification mailer.
The error is
451 4.1.8 Domain of sender address WFMailer@domain.local does not resolve
Note: WFMailer@doamin.local is reply to address)
The following is a test to check the smtp connectivity from the unix server to exchange form oracle.
(oracle note id:753845.1)
telnet [outbound server] 25
EHLO [mailer node]
MAIL FROM: [reply_to address]
RCPT TO: [my_test_email_address]
DATA
Subject: Test message
Test message body
.
quit
when i try to test this i faced the above error.
Kindly suggest.

I know nothing, but this looks to me more
like an application configuration problem
than an HP-UX problem. Someone appears to be
trying to send e-mail to
"WFMailer@domain.local", and "domain.local",
as the complaint says, is not a valid domain.

Hello,
This has nothing to do wit the Unix server.
Your Exchange server is configured to verify
DNS records for incoming messages.
Obviously,The Exchange server doe snot resolve or know anything about
WFMailer@domain.local
Options:
a) Set up Exchange server to accept unresolvable domain.local;
or
b) Set up Oracle on the Unix server to use
some other (resolvable) domain in email
messages.
or
c) Set up Unix server to masquerade Oracle
domain.local with some valid domain that
the Exchange server will accept.
Cheers,
VK2COT

Re: mail started giving problem on HP_UX 11.31 after patching.
Shalom,
This looks to me like someone updated security on a smtp relay system.
That is a good test for smtp connectivity.
I think the results would have been the same before and after the OS patch, if the local system were the cause of the problem.
I think the smtp relay server is the cause.
Check:
/sbin/init.d/sendmail stop
/sbin/init.d/sendmail start
tail -f /var/adm/syslog/mail.log
Check out that log file for changes and when they began.
