make eva 4000 lun visible to hp-ux - rx4640 servers

I have used the below 2 options before. Which one is better option or do we have any other better way to do it?

Allocate lun
Present it to host
Then in HP-ux do the following...

Option # 1

ioscan
insf –e
ioscan –funC disk

Option # 2

ioscan –fnC disk
Note down the hardware path
Then do some insf -eH on the primary and the alternate paths

insf -eH 0/2/1/0.10.0.0.0.0.2

Thanks!

Shalom,

ioscan -fnCfc

Identify the devices of the fiber cards

fcmsutil

Make sure the EVA has these luns configured to the correct World Wide Name.

The two options are equally good, the second has the possibility of new LUNS being recognized without a reboot.

Re: make eva 4000 lun visible to hp-ux - rx4640 servers

1.- Keep a previous ioscan -fnCdisk (in case is hard to identify the new devices)
2.-ioscan
3.- insf
4.-ioscan -fnCdisk > ioscan.dsk.new
5.- check differences

Alternative (both after a new ioscan):

1.- HPUX 11.23 and AUTOPATH:
# autopath display and identify the WWLUNID you just created in the EVA.

2.- HPUX 11.31
# scsimgr -get_info -D special_devices |grep "WWID", and again identify the WWLUNID you just created.

Hope it helps.

Re: make eva 4000 lun visible to hp-ux - rx4640 servers

The difference between option 1) and 2) is the "insf" - in 1) you re-create all, in 2) you create the new devices only.

Both are possible.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

It depends to structure of device files.
Some times because of application configurations, we change the owner or permision of device files. (for example oracle RAC), In this condition, you must try to keep the old device files and only use insf for new luns.

Thanks guys!
What are the risks involved in option #1?
Is there any way it can damage the existing ones?

I meant to say that as the first option is recreating all , what risks are involved in it?
Do we think option#2 is a better choice?

Re: make eva 4000 lun visible to hp-ux - rx4640 servers

If you have hp-ux 11.31 you will see them directly after ioscan. insf will run automatically.

As said, option 2) will create them for this path only; it is up to you if this option is better for you

;-)

Hope this helps!
