make_tape_recovery fails with default device file

Hi,

Kindly find the attached output of the system backup that i took recently.

make_tape_recovery failed with the default device file /dev/rmt/0mn.

It only succeeds either with /dev/rmt/5mn or /dev/rmt/2mn.

Kindly suggest what could be done for this!

Thanks,
Sridhar

Re: make_tape_recovery fails with default device file

ioscan clearly shows that /dev/rmt/0mn is not present. It might be present earlier and when new tape devices were added they got the next available instance no. Later on those devices might have been removed physically.

Since this devices is no longer prest hence it won't be possible to take backup using that.

Hi,

Execute the "insf -e" then put "ioscan -fn" & "ioscan -fnC tape" output.

Re: make_tape_recovery fails with default device file

Hi,

>>ERROR: Failed to open tape device /dev/rmt/0mn:No such device or address

Means ignite failed to open this device as its not recognised by system i.e. not available to kernal as shown in ioscan.

#ioscan -funC tape | grep -i 0mn

If tape is present at 0mn then try as suggested above:
#insf -e
#ioscan -fnC tape|grep -i 0mn

See if you can see the tape.

If tape is not physically present at 0mn then the above error is obvious!
Will it remain a personal, if I broadcast it here!
