mediainit consequences on a newly purchased disk

Hi All,
if anyone can tell if there are some bad consequences after issuing mediainit on a newly purchased disk for an rx6600? the fact is that after issuing the following command on hp-ux 11i v3:
#mediainit /dev/rdisk/disk21 &
the job was ended signaling the following:
"can not spare bad blocks"
is the disk damaged in that case?

P.S. This thread has been moved from Disk to HP-UX > sysadmin. -HP Forum Moderator

Re: mediainit consequences on a newly purchased disk

I guess you have got the message "unable to spare bad block(s) mediainit: verification of media failed".

I was aware that old HP-UX patch have fix of this.

But now a days you no need to do mediainit.

A far better (and much less destructive) way to test disks is to use dd:

dd if=/dev/rdsk/c3t6d0 of=/dev/null bs=1024k

Try to pvcreate the disk and check the diskinfo status.
