mediainit

Hi all,

I am a newbie in HP-UX.
I wonder how long it takes for mediainit to initialize 73G SCSI disk.

Thank you,
SS

Re: mediainit

You *never* use mediainit(1M) for hard-disks.

mediainit(1M) is from days long, long gone.

I.e. you also do *not* use it to 'solve' hard-disk I/O errors, nor for non-HP hard-disks.

See http://groups.google.com/groups?selm=a5ktas$d7l$1@support.neth.hp.com for a more complete explanation.

Thanks,
Johnson

Re: mediainit

hello Sergei,

mediainit as a command is no more uisd in oreder to initialise the HDD , almost all the disks that come today are already initialised from the factory , u just plug in and start working , idisk, pvcreate, vgcreate , vgextend and all.

this is so simple now ...

pvcreate/vgcreate helped.

Re: mediainit

Shalom,

I used this command once to insure erasure of data. But the process for getting a disk ready in HP-UX is thus:

pvcreate
vgextend (a volume group to include the disk or)
vgcreate (create a new volume group)
lvcreate (create a new logical volume)
lvextend (extend size of a logical volume)
newfs (If you want to logical volume to have a file system)
