Re: monitoring

Shalom,

Any script output can be routed to | mailx and the output will be emailed to whomever you want.

Sendmail must be configured to deliver the mail to an external system if you want this to happen.

The simple way to do that is vi /etc/rc.config.d/mailsvrs Change the sendmail start variable to 1.

/sbin/init.d/sendmail start

You will probably need to institute the DS dierective and relay an smtp relay server. This is done in sendmail.cf DSrelayserver

Then restart the sendmail daemon.

Re: monitoring

This really depends on what you are trying to monitor. We currently have a set of perl and shell scripts that get info from our servers and sends alerts to us. Another option is to install nagios on a system. You may still need to do some custom scripting. You can also setup ems for alerts, but it is somewhat limited in what it will monitor. Usually I just use the default ems setup and just add work e-mail address to root's .forward file. Then I get alerts when disk errors and such occur.

Re: monitoring

While logged in as root do:

# /etc/opt/resmon/lbin/monconfig

Then just go through the menus to configure as you desire.
