I am starting a new project that has a rx8640 with 2 cells.
We are planning to use the entire sever with both cells to create a unique nPar to run Oracle. Now is where I could use a little help. Is it better if I create on top of that nPar a vPar (I beleve it is because of benefits like online addition of memory and processors) or is it better if I install HP-UX directlly on the nPar ?
Second thing is, suppose I chose to use vPar and I have some kind of hardware problem on one of the cells (out of two that is part of the nPar). Do I need to stop the vPar running on the nPar to make the maintenance or could I just change the vPar configuration in order to online remove the hardware that belongs to that cell and keep the system running?
Thanks for your help.
Filippo

Re: nPar / vPar Plannig
Every npar/vpar requires these things to work:
disk
network access
At least 1 cpu
memory.
You can protect a vpar by using software mirroring of the OS. Two disks, raid 1.

SolutionAnyway, a hardware problem in a nPar may affect all running vPars inside.
Read more about dynamic nPars:

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
