newaliases Assertion failed: LDAP_VALID( ld ), file options.c, line 342

Hello Gurus,

I am facing a issue while starting sendmail (problem reported as mailx not working), I found that it is newaliases which reports following error.
newaliases
Assertion failed: LDAP_VALID( ld ), file options.c, line 342
Abort
eux990:/etc/mail#

Issue found that pwgrd ( Password and Group Hashing and Caching daemon) was not running on this machine. (LDAP Configured)
Further you need to look if ldap not configured on your system then edit /etc/nsswitch.conf file according for lookup of passwd service.
