not able to run powermt at all

I am using following on one of hpux11.0
EMCpower HP.2.1.0_b108

However, everytime when I run powermt, no matter what option is, it always gives me following errors:
Unrecoverable error occurred. Aborting.

I suspect, it may never been configured or used. What I should do to very if powerth is configured or not? If I just remove it online, will there be any problems?

Thanks,

Shalom,

I think you have buggy software. See if you have a certified version for HP-UX or if there is a patch available.

Re: not able to run powermt at all

Is it coredumping?

I would contact EMC and place a support call...

Does this fail?

powermt version

What version are you running?

Check /etc/rc.log - search for PowerPath

That will tell you if it starts up...

Re: not able to run powermt at all

in /etc/rc.log I found the same error when I ran powermt version:
Unrecoverable error occurred. Aborting.

I am also getting following messages in syslog.log file:
vmunix: emcp:Mp:Error: Path c12t3d6 to Symm 00018772097 7 vol 550 is dead.

Would there be a problem if I just swremove it online?

Re: not able to run powermt at all

This could be from bad CodeWord. Try the following command, if it still fails, start from reinstalling the CodeWord.

# powermt check_registration

Key ????-????-????-????-????-????
Product: PowerPath
Capabilities: All

PS. ? is intended to hide my key

Re: not able to run powermt at all

swremove powerpath will require a reboot - see the PowerPath Installation and Admin Guide.

Seriously - you need to contact EMC to ask them what is wrong. It is obvious that it is supposed to be running (or was)...

Re: not able to run powermt at all

Matthew,

When I run powermt check_registration,
I am getting : Registration is valid.

That is all I got, there is no any other returned informaiton, although it says "valid".

Re: not able to run powermt at all

Sorry for the late response.
Looks like your KEY is messed up. Short of calling EMC, you can do the following when users are off;
powermt remove force dev=all (to clean)
powermt config (add your keys again)
powermt save (to keep new configuration)
powermt check_registration (to validate)
powermt display dev=all

If any of the steps above bums out, stop and call EMC.

Check if it is installed correctly or not.

Re: not able to run powermt at all

Hanry,

First, you should check with EMC to see about getting a newer version. It looks like you are running version 2.1 (patched). That version reach EOSL in May of 2005. If this server had been patched or upgraded it may not be working correctly.

If you have an EMC PowerLink account you might be able to download a newer version (https://powerlink.emc.com/nsepn/webapps/btg548664833igtcuup4826/km/appmanager/km/secureDesktop?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=servicesDownloadsTemplatePg&internalId=0b01406680021d88&_irrt=true )

If upgrade or re-install is not an option then your best bet is;
- powermt remove hba=all dev=all
- powermt config

If you get that error you have been getting while running these commands you can try;
- mv /etc/powermt.custom /etc/powermt.custom.old
- powermt config
