password argument to ssh

Hi!

I want an alias which has an argument where I can provide the password instead of setting up passwordless access through keygen.

Is it possible?

Thanks,
Allan.

Re: password argument to ssh

Hi Allan:

But why? The idea of setting up public keys (password-less access) is to be able to eliminate coding passwords in scripts or in clear-text files.

Besides, once properly setup, you don't have to change anything if/when the login password changes :-)

If you insist on providing the password you are going to have to use 'expect' to offer the interaction. In my opinion, that just adds not only a layer of complexity but weakens your security.

Regards!
