password parameters

Hi,

I was asked to set the following password parameter in HPUX 11.11 non trusted system:

• PASS_MAX_DAYS;
• PASS_MIN_DAYS;
• PASS_WARN_AGE;
• PASSWORD_HISTORY_DEPTH; and
• TIMOUT.

Any pointer on how to go about it is appreciated, thanks.

Re: password parameters

Hi,

You can set these parameters in /etc/default/security file for non trusted system.

you can get detail in "man security"

if this file doesn't exist in mentioned path then you have to be create it.

have a nice day.

Re: password parameters

Hi YC,

You may set all this in /etc/default/security. But it is mentioned that PASSWORD_HISTORY_DEPTH can be set in trusted mode only.

The file entries will look like,

# of days that passwords are valid
# PASSWORD_MAXDAYS=175
# PASSWORD_MINDAYS=14

# Shadow mode only: number of days prior to
# password expiration to give a warning
# PASSWORD_WARNDAYS=14

# Trusted mode only: password history depth
# PASSWORD_HISTORY_DEPTH=4

Re: password parameters

Hi,
To set the following things first your system should be a trusted system then only you can set all those things.

To convert your system into trusted system

#/usr/lbin/tsconvert

To revert back from trusted system

#/usr/lbin/tsconvert -r
