SolutionMost likely your system would boot up, but it would run poorly if at all.
The only thing you would be able to do is configure swap.
I would use sam in your shoes.

This problem is why I go against convention and mirror swap when possible. I want the system to keep running normally if one of the swap disks or mirrors goes offline.

Re: primary swap problem
Yes the system can boot up provided the pseudo swap is enabled, which by default is, remember the kernel parameter swapmem_on.
Otherwise as per my knowledge the system should have atleast one device swap area available when the system boots.
So if pseudo swap is disabled in the kernel and if no device swap is available then the system should not boot.
Hope you assign points as you get your doubts clear. :-)

Sorry not sure if you can boot the system in maintenance mode at all as the primary swap is on the boot disk itself.
When you say swap is corruptefd I assume the disk got bad blocks, so to set right you need to replace the disk and reinstall/ignite.
Hope you assign points as you get your doubts clear. :-)
