problem with fca2384 HBA

Hi all,

We'v new preinstalled ES47 w/ two fca2384 HBAs connected to fabric. Each hba connected to B-Series/8b FC switches. However link state of one of the HBAs is down.

# hwmgr show fibre

I'v the same problem on the second new ES47. But on this one both controllers is down.

Hello
You said that cables are OK. Did you try to connect cable from one FC HBA to another? Did you try to swap RX and TX part of cable? Is the port of FC switch configured OK?
I usually get message "pgx0.0.0.1.8 Link is down" when TX and RX sides of FC cable are swaped.

That "wwid type 9 not implemented" looks mighty suspicious to me. I don't recall ever seeing anything like that. You say that both servers are running the same firmware - what firmware rev is it?

You can safely ignore the "wwid type 9 not implemented" message from wwidmgr. That's just something benign that the latest version of the firmware does. It just means that it saw a "non-disk" on the fabric.

I'd tried all posible variants with cables, connected to another fabric, disabled/enabled port on switch, swaped rx-tx, used another cable. Nothing helps.

Looks like my HBAs sleeping, however I can see red light in HBAs' TX. Maybe there's some power saving features in Tru64?

"wwid type 9" is a tape library in fabric.

What's the status on the port (and counters)?

Could still be a broken HBA...

status and counter information attached, i'd reseted counters and made hwmgr scsi scan to initiate some i/o.

The port doesn't even see "light" on the B fabric. I would swap the cables between the two HBA's and if the problem stays with the HBA, I would replace the HBA.
